**Part-time position for Toronto area university students**
The Office of the Assembly is the administrative arm of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Our mandate is to provide non-partisan support services to all Members of Provincial Parliament.
Legislative Student Usher
Parliamentary Protocol and Public Relations Branch
The Office of the Legislative Assembly, Parliamentary Protocol and Public Relations Branch offers a challenging opportunity for University students to experience the parliamentary process and work in the Legislative Chamber at the provincial Parliament Building. Use your excellent interpersonal, customer service and diplomacy skills to assist in the day-to-day operation of the House while in session. You will assist with the set-up of the Chamber, monitor access to the galleries, seat visitors/staff members, ensure rules of conduct and protocols are observed and provide coat check services. While the House is in session, you will be required to remain standing at various assigned posts. Ability to adapt to a changing work pace within a high-profile work environment is essential.
Contracts begin in early September and end the last working day in August. The salary for this position is $15.36 per hour.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
proficiency in English
strong interpersonal and communication skills
ability to exercise tact and diplomacy
good judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality of proceedings
understanding and interest in Ontario's Parliamentary System
flexibility and willingness to work on short notice and after regular hours
conversational French is an asset
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
must be enrolled at one of the following local Universities: University of Toronto, York University or Ryerson University full or part-time enrollment in an undergraduate program at University proof of registration (you must maintain active registration during the term of employment) commitment and availability to work a minimum of 2 - 3 shifts per week from Monday to Thursday
Regular hours of work during Legislative Sessions:
AM shift PM shift
Monday: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon 12:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday & Wednesday: 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon 2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Thursday: 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon 12:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
