Job Description: Program Assistant Intern
Working Women Community Centre is a community settlement agency providing counseling, support groups, employment services, language, skills and employment training programs to immigrant women and their families. All staff of the agency is responsible for demonstrating support and commitment to the mandate and objectives of the Centre. Staff are expected to work in a spirit of cooperation and to actively promote harmonious relations.
Status: Part-time, Summer Career Placement Position
Duration: July 9 to August 24, 2012
Hours: 30 Hours per week including some evening hours (7 wks)
Rate: $10.25 per hour
Reports to: LINC Manager, North York East Centre (working with Community Gardener)
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work to meet the goals and objectives of the Oriole Community Garden program at the North York East Centre
• Actively participate in learning about Working Women Community Centre and the services in the area
• Assist with statistical and administrative documentation as required for the Oriole Community Garden
• Participate in committee meetings and minute taking
• Perform other work as requested by supervisor
• Assist with outreach in the local community
• Provide support with organization and planning of the community potlucks and gardening activities
QUALIFICATIONS
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Able to work independently and/or as a team member
• Good organizational skills and be able to be flexible
• Satisfactory English-language skills both verbal and written
• Fluency in another language is an asset
• Willingness to learn and a good listener
• Able to take initiative and work with agency protocols and processes
You must be a student returning to school full time in the fall of 2012 in order to qualify for this position. You must also be a youth according to the requirements of the HRSDC Summer Career Placement Program.

Eligible Participants: To be eligible for SCP, participants must:
• be between 15 AND 30 YEARS OF AGE (INCLUSIVELY) at the time of intake/selection;
• be registered as full-time students in the previous academic year, and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• be students in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program, but not attending full-time classes while participating in their SCP placement;
• be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
• be legally entitled to work according to relevant federal and provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and
• not hold another full-time (30 or more hours) summer job during their placement.
